Yes, it is possible to configure a single installation of Coffalyser.Net for multiple users. Depending on the needs of your organisation, there are several different ways to achieve this.
Individual user accounts with different levels of access can be created for privacy, security and organisational purposes. More information can be found in the following document: Coffalyser.Net - Working with Multi-User Environments.
It is also possible to install Coffalyser.Net in a network environment so that the data is accessible from more than one computer. The easiest way to achieve this is to install the database on a server. The client can either be installed on each computer individually or can be shared via a network share. More information can be found in the following document: Coffalyser.Net - Creating Client-Server Setup with Multiple Clients.
In some cases it can be useful to install the database and the Coffalyser.Net Server application on different servers, such as when a dedicated SQL cluster exists where no additional software can be installed. Please see below for more details about such a setup.
Coffalyser.Net consists of three components that interact with each other:
- The Coffalyser.Net Client. This is the end-user application that forms the user interface.
- The Coffalyser.Net database on a Microsoft SQL Server. This is used to store data and settings.
- The Coffalyser.Net Server service. This application facilitates the interaction between the Client(s) and the database.
The default installation places all components on the same computer. For simple single-user setups, this is usually the computer of an individual user. If the database and the Coffalyser.Net Server application are installed on an accessible network server, all Coffalyser.Net Clients in the network can connect to this server. This setup can be simplified by placing the Coffalyser.Net Client on a network share on the server, which allows all users on the network to use Coffalyser.Net without the need to install anything on their workstations.
The installation of the Coffalyser.Net Server application and the database on separate computers is also possible, but slightly more elaborate. Coffalyser.Net normally creates the database during installation, but this may not be possible on a remote SQL Server (depending on permission settings). As a workaround, a default installation of Coffalyser.Net can be performed on a separate workstation or virtual machine. The newly created database from this installation can then be migrated to the dedicated SQL Server. The Coffalyser.Net Server and Client applications can then be installed on an application server. During setup it is possible to refer to the existing database on the database server. See the Coffalyser.Net Installation Manual for more details about the setup, or contact us for if you require additional information.
